Who I Am

About Me

Technologist and BI leader by day; Husband and father by night; Other titles as occasion permits.

I enjoy my work but I’m not defined by it

I remember hearing some wise advice from a religious leader: balance in life is a dynamic equilibrium. That is to say, a person doesn’t achieve balance once and for all, rather it requires constant rebalancing.

Like many of us, I struggle to maintain balance in my life. Sometimes, my family needs more of my time and my work may suffer; Other times, my work or some other responsibility may demand more attention and I have to temporarily put my family in maintenance mode. I suppose the only way to live a perfectly balanced life is to live an entirely one-dimensional life.

Ultimately, seeking, finding, and maintaining balance is the work of a lifetime.

I’m a complete person

My work contributes purpose, meaning, and challenge in my life, but it isn’t the only source for those things.

Consume wisely.
Live mindfully
Share abundantly.

A couple of years ago, during the height of the COVID19 pandemic, my employer hired a mindset training company to lead us through their program. The one thing that stands out more than any other was the personal vision statement they encouraged us to create.

Seeking Balance

Seeking, finding, and maintaining balance is the work of a lifetime. These are the people and groups that have a claim on my time and energy – the constituencies I serve.

MY FAMILY

“No success can compensate for failure in the home.” The origins of that quote aren’t clear to me (I first heard it in a speech by a religions leader) but I believe it.

My family are my most important stakeholders.

MY CHURCH

I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I’ve had various responsibilities in leadership, administration, and teaching within my local congregation. I’m committed to active participation and service in my church.

MY CAREER

I’m a technology professional with over 10 years of experience delivering BI solutions to my customers and stakeholders.

Whatever I’m doing, I’m focused on long-term success over short-term gains.

MY COMMUNITY

I’m a third year rec league soccer coach for my daughter’s team. Go Icebergs!

I was a volunteer coordinator for a US senate candidate during the 2022 election cycle.
